Frequently asked questions
What is Cerbral and how does it work?
Cerbral is an open-source personal AI that runs on your own
machine (via local Ollama) and stores everything it learns in
your private GitHub repo. We never see your data. You
sign in to cerbral.com just so your desktop app can find your
brain repo — nothing else is stored on our side.
What should I use Cerbral for?
Anything where you want an AI that remembers — your day-to-day
thinking, long-running projects, coding with context, research,
task agents. The difference from a cloud AI is that the memory
sticks with you, not with them.
How much does it cost to use?
Nothing. Cerbral is MIT-licensed and free forever. You run
inference on your own machine, so the only costs are electricity
and whatever API keys you choose to plug in for extra backends.
We have no paid tier and no plans to add one.
Is my data really private?
Yes. Your conversations, memories, and sessions live in your
own private GitHub repo on your GitHub account. Cerbral Cloud
stores only your email, GitHub handle, and the URL to your
brain repo — nothing else.
Why is the Explore plans section a joke?
Because Cerbral has no paid tier and never will. Every plan
is the same plan: the open-source one you own forever.
